OFF SCRIPT - AN ALTERNATIVE COURSE IN FILMMAKING AND GETTING FILMS MADE (AUTUMN 2026)

Rob will be running an online course for a maximum of seven participants in September/October 2026…

‘Off Script’ is not like other film courses - this is about how to actually get films made by avoiding the traps that kill most projects before they even get off the page.

Taking inspiration from seven exceptional micro-budget films that tore up the rulebook, the course asks: why did these films succeed in getting made when so many others stalled? What can they teach us about getting our own projects into production? 

Over seven weeks this course dives into the elements that are fundamental to any film’s success, from the director’s vision to the mechanics of storytelling — character, consequence, conflict, place — as well as strategies for financing, production, and tips on how to move forward without permission. It is practical, interactive and never boring, drawing on Rob’s years of experience learning from and working alongside directors including Stephen Frears and Darren Aronofsky.

The course (which culminates in a 1:1 tutorial) will be taught personally by Rob and will run on Tuesday evenings over seven weeks. It is intended for specifically writers, directors and producers with both long and short-form projects at various stages of completion (across fiction, documentary and everything in between). All course attendees will emerge not only with comprehensive script or edit notes but also a production plan, timeline and budget for the completion of their project.
