OFF/SCRIPT - AN ALTERNATIVE COURSE IN FILMMAKING AND GETTING FILMS MADE
Rob will be running an online course for a maximum of eight participants in December 2026/Jan 2027… (with further dates in Febuary and March 2027)
‘OFF/SCRIPT’ is not like other film courses - this is about how to actually get films made by avoiding the traps that kill most projects before they even get off the page.
Taking inspiration from five exceptional micro-budget films that tore up the rulebook (across both fiction and documentary) the course asks: why did these films succeed in getting made when so many others stalled? What can they teach us about getting our own projects into production?
Over five sessions this course dives into the elements that are fundamental to any film’s success; from the director’s vision to the mechanics of storytelling — character, consequence, conflict, place — as well as strategies for financing, production, and tips on how to move forward without permission. It is practical, interactive and never boring, drawing on Rob’s years of experience learning from and working alongside directors including Stephen Frears and Darren Aronofsky.
The course (which culminates in a 1:1 tutorial) will be taught personally by Rob and will run on Tuesday or Thursday evenings over five weeks. It is intended for specifically writers, directors and producers with both long and short-form projects at various stages of completion (across fiction, documentary and everything in between).

December 2026/January 2027 - Tuesdays @ 18.00 - 20.00 starting Tuesday December 1st (and continuing 8th, 15th and then January 5th and 12th).
January/February 2027 - Tuesdays @ 18.00 - 20.00 starting Tuesday January 26th (and continuing February 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd).
February/March 2027 - Thursdays @ 18.00 - 20.00 starting Thursday February 11th (and continuing 18th, 25th, March 4th, 11th and 18th).
Fees & Terms
If your application is successful, the full cost of the course is £295.00.
£75.00 is payable as a deposit to secure your place with the full balance being due two weeks before the first session.
The course involves group discussion and the sharing of opinions and ideas; all participants agree to do so in a way that is respectful and inclusive.
If, after attending the first session, you decide the course isn’t for you, 50% of your fee will be refunded.
Minimum age: the course is intended for 18 and up but there is no course content that would inappropriate for anyone younger.
